The tragic girder collapse on NH-66, which claimed the life of a 48-year-old pickup van driver, is not merely an accident—it is a glaring testament to systemic safety failures and persistent negligence in the Aroor–Thuravoor development corridor. Such catastrophic lapses are unacceptable in a nation that prides itself on infrastructure advancement.
I will be writing to Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji, Honourable Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, urging an urgent, independent, and transparent safety audit of the entire project; strict accountability for NHAI officials and the contractor concerned; immediate suspension of all hazardous work until mandated safety protocols are guaranteed; time-bound corrective measures with public disclosure; and enhanced compensation and dignified support for the bereaved family.
Kerala seeks development—not danger. Progress cannot come at the cost of human life. Every worker, every commuter, and every citizen has an uncompromisable right to safety. NHAI must reinforce a zero-tolerance policy for negligence, enforce mandatory protective systems for on-site workers, implement real-time safety monitoring, and ensure that no project proceeds without rigorous compliance with national safety standards.
Human life is sacred, and accountability is non-negotiable.
